Reporting from the 404Media site, Buzzer from Russia carried out a boycott of the game STALKER 2. It is known that a journalist received a message which was strange. The message took the form of a video purportedly from Wired claiming that the Ukrainian government was tracking down citizens suitable for mobilization.

The propaganda video contains an explanation that there is an embedded program found in the game. The program collects gamers’ data and sends it to developers. The video also claims that player data such as name, IP, address, device and location were sent to help the Ukrainian government find potential military recruits.

It is claimed that the Ukrainian government is looking for potential military conscripts as part of a funding agreement between GSC Game World as a game developer and the Ukrainian government. In order to avoid this, players are advised to boycott STALKER 2 or just play using a VPN.

After further investigation, the propaganda video turned out to be disinformation, aka incorrect information, and did not come from Wired. The video is behind the same source that was behind the recent Matryoshka and Doppelganger campaigns.

It is said that there are anti-Ukrainian Trollers masquerading as western media news outlets. They spread misinformation that portrays Ukraine in a negative light. As well as exploiting Western Fatigue with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, wasting the time and energy of journalists and fact checkers.

Disinformation videos regarding propaganda against the game STALKER 2 have attracted the attention of Russia which is not at all surprising. The STALKER game series itself is the most famous game from Ukraine, and has even become a kind of symbol of resilience in that country.
